A rare 1979 Rolex Oyster Perpetual "Great White" Sea-Dweller divers watch model number 1665 with a highly sought after so called "Rail Dial".  This example was originally purchased in 1979 by a Royal Canadian Navy Diver and Captain who served on the HMCS Discovery & HMCS Malahat as the Ships Diving Officer.  It was not military issued, but purchased (partially subsidized by the Department of National Defense) from Montecristo Jewelers in Vancouver, Canada.  When the Captain was asked why he chose to purchase the Sea-Dweller his response was "I needed an accurate and dependable watch, that's why I chose Rolex, because time underwater is life or death". The original owner sold the watch to the current owner in 1988, but he has recently been able to re-connect with the original owner to acquire his story.  This timepiece has been well used as a tool in the trade it was designed for and shows lots of external wear on the case and bracelet, but remarkably, and a testament to its design and craftsmanship, the dial is absolutely superb in near mint  condition.  The "Rail Dial" is differentiated from a standard "Great White" dial by the placement of the words Superlative Chronometer and Officially Certified with the "C's" vertically aligned.  The original hands match perfectly with just a small discoloration in the lume of the seconds hand.  A superb vintage Rolex tool watch with an incredible military service history.
