A highly unusual and rare early attempt at waterproofing retailed by the famous European jeweler and watch dealer, E.Gubelin of Lucerne. The back functions much like a jam jar in that it slots into place and turns a quarter turn to lock closed. Inner dust cover provides more protection. Also features an unusual screw in small gasket within the wall of the bezel to attempt to waterproof the crown and stem assembly. This watch is in excellent overall condition and looks great. A real rarity from a famous house. For decades Gubelin was a dealer in the best of best jewelery and watches from houses such as Patek Philippe, Jaeger LeCoultre, Piaget etc.
