Beautiful early Gerald Genta designed Universal Geneve Automatic Polerouter with stunning original black cross-hair gilt printed dial with golden chapter ring in a Bombe style gold cap case with caliber 138SS movement within. This watch is from the earliest series of Polerouters only produced for about a year starting in 1954 with this bumper style automatic movement which was then replaced by the now famous, micro-rotor designed calibers for the rest of the production run. This rare example has an especially beautiful dial and a wonderful vintage look on the wrist in that large 36mm diameter case fitted with a plain black strap and generic buckle. Freshly service here at Meticulous, keeping great time with our full 1 year mechanical warranty.
Style: Mid-Century Dress
Circa: 1954
Case: Large solid stainless steel case with thick solid 14k gold "cap" and wide Bombe style lugs with a diameter of 36mm excluding the crown. Some wear is present on the gold cap, consistent with age giving it an unmistakable vintage look with no major dents or scratches. I believe it still has its original unsigned crown (correct for this model) which has lost its gold plating. The watch is stamped on the back with the Universal Geneve logo and inside Acier Inoxydable, Swiss with the Huguenin Freres, HF makers stamp.
Dial: Original factory printed black dial with cross-hair design and cream colour luminous dots at each hour. Signed Universal Geneve Polerouter, Automatic. It has a wonderful rich gold colour printing and applied U logo at 12:00 matching the outer chapter ring and original hands.
Movement: Superb quality bumper style in-house Universal Geneve designed and manufactured automatic movement caliber 138SS freshly serviced here at Meticulous and in excellent working condition. Signed Universal Geneve, 138SS, Swiss, Unadjusted, 17 Jewels with incabloc protection on the balance. It comes with our full 1 year mechanical warranty ready to wear!
