A rare and beautiful limited edition Zenith El Primero Chronomaster "São Gabriel" chronograph in solid 18k rose gold with gorgeous black dial and exhibition case back, fitted in its original inner and outer boxes with chronometer certification scroll, warranty card and instruction booklets. Created in a limited run of 750 pieces to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Vasco da Gama's 1497–1499 voyage to India, it was designed by J. Borges Freitas to blend classic 1930s-inspired dial aesthetics with 1990s case proportions. Measuring 38mm in diameter by only 12mm thick this timepiece has a beautiful presence on the wrist with a sporty, yet elegant look. Case: Solid 18k rose gold case measuring 38mm in diameter excluding the signed crown and pushers, by 45mm lug tip to tip with 19mm lug spacing fitted with its original strap. The sapphire crystals both front and back are in superb condition showing off the stunning dial and famous El Primero movement beautifully. The case is fully stamped on the back Zenith, 18k 750, Swiss Made, Water Resistant No 595/750 with model number 17.0500.400. The case is in excellent condition throughout although the original leather strap is quite worn and could use replacing. The original gold plated Zenith signed buckle is also in lightly worn condition.
Dial: Gorgeous factory printed original black dial with outer 1/5th seconds track, snail style tachymeter and 3 sub-dials showing elapsed minutes, hours and constant seconds. The date is displayed at 4:30 with a rose on black date disk. Fully signed Zenith El Primero, Automatic, Swiss Made with matching original hand set.
Movement: The in-house designed and manufactured Zenith El Primero Caliber 400 is a legendary piece of horological history. Originally debuting in 1969 as the world's first fully integrated, automatic, high-frequency chronograph caliber (under the designation 3019 PHC), it was reintroduced and refined in the late 1980s and 1990s as the Caliber 400. Comprised of 278 parts, this movement beats at an incredibly high frequency, 36,000 times/hour or 10 times/second giving it incredible accuracy. It features 31 jewels and shock protection on the balance giving it excellent durability as well. Fully signed Zenith, El Primero, 31 Jewels, Swiss Made. Box & Papers: Comes complete with all of its original sales kit, its original inner and outer boxes with chronometer certification scroll, warranty card and instruction booklets. All is in very nice condition with just the inner box pillow showing some crazing on the original leather cover. Included is a very cool, scrolled chronometer certificate with matching serial numbers and testing specs.
