Extremely rare and fine 1940's vintage dress watch featuring an immaculate, high grade C.H.Meylan movement and wonderfully unique case design, retailed by the high-end New York jewellery house of Gumbiner.  The curved bulbous shape of the case is truly exceptional and very unusual, hand crafted out of thick solid 18k gold by the Cresarrow Watch Co of New Jersey.  Inside we find the rare C.H.Meylan movement which would have been imported from Switzerland by Cresarrow, then cased and timed to meet the design and quality demands of the retailer, Gumbiner.  Freshly serviced by our watchmaker, this rare vintage timepiece is in 100% all original condition and of the highest quality and craftsmanship in every regard.

Style: Art Deco, Mid-Century Dress

Circa: 1940's

Case:  Heavy 18k gold hand made two-piece case with deeply curved edges and a faceted flat back.  The movement is accessed by removing the snap-on bezel with original glass crystal.  Measures 29mm wide excluding the original crown by 37mm lug tip to tip.  Signed inside the back 18k with the crescent moon/flying arrow Cresarrow logo.  Superb unpolished condition with a light patina/tarnish on the exposed gold surfaces.  Comes on a beautiful dark brown 18mm Italian made genuine lizard strap.

Dial:  Original factory silvered snap-on style dial with printed outer minute track and applied gold Arabic numbers, signed Gumbiner, Swiss.  Each solid gold number is evenly patinaed to a slightly darker colour then the case.  Overall excellent bright near mint condition.

Historical Notes:

Gumbiner:  Not much information is available on the internet about this high end New York based jeweller, but their name can be found on the dial of several ultra high grade wristwatches on the net, most of which are by the famed house of Patek Philippe.  Here are a couple of examples: Patek Philippe Gumbiner ChronographPatek Philippe Gumbiner Platinum Tank

Cresarrow:  An excellent webpage on Henry Blank and the history of the Cresarrow Watch Company as well as their association with C.H.Meylan of Brassus, Switzerland.
