An excellent example of the famed Gruen Pan-Am wristwatch produced for the airline company and general sale in the 1940's. I love the complicated 24 hour dial with center seconds set off by that hot red seconds hand. This particular dial is stunning with sharp detail and great two tone definition. A very classy and highly popular vintage timepiece.
Style: Mid-Century Dress, Military
Circa: 1940's
Case: Fancy Pan-Am style 2-peice snap back case with 10K Gold Filled bezel and Guildlite back. Signed Cased and Timed in the USA by Gruen Watch Co, Wadsworth with correct model and serial numbers for the watch. This case still looks great, but does show some age with a couple of minor mark on the bezel and some slight wear through on the back of the lugs. Gruen signed original crown.
Dial: Original factory printed 2-tone dial with 24 hour chapter ring in exellent condition with applied gold markers and a slight even patina giving it that great vintage look. Original crown and hands. Signed Gruen Veri-Thin Precision, Swiss.
Movement: High quality Swiss made center seconds movement signed Gruen Watch Co. Precision 17 Jewels, Switzerland. Caliber 420SS. Fully serviced by our watchmaker and in excellent working condition.
Note: Many of the larger swiss factories such as LeCoultre, Gruen, Longines etc. set up North American factories which undertook the finishing of the complete watches. The movements would be produced in Switzerland, shipped over and watches cased and timed in the US.
