A truly stunning vintage 1961 Omega Seamaster 300 divers watch in wonderful, honest vintage condition with gorgeous original matte black dial and pumpkin colour luminous with sharp white print and perfectly aged hand set with rare straight white centre seconds hand. This famous timepiece was from Omega's first series of "professional" watches born in 1957 along with the Speedmaster and Railmaster models, all of which are iconic collectibles today with many of the same design features still used in current Omega models. To give some perspective, the only previous dedicated dive watch Omega produced before this series was a very different, small rectangular shape model in the 1930's called the Omega Marine featuring an ingenious hermetically sealed double case design. For Omega, this Seamaster 300 professional design became the blueprint in many ways from which almost every divers watch for decades to come. The example you see here is truly stunning on the wrist with its original model 7077 flat-link bracelet dated to the 1st quarter of 1961. The original black and white thin enamel bezel "insert" has chipped out as is true for most examples of this era and I personally prefer leaving the watch as is rather then have it re-done which is what you see on most examples on the market today. To me it gives the timepiece an honest sense of history and in terms of aesthetics nicely references the look of a Railmaster with its simple steel bezel. The overall condition is of light wear throughout with no major dents or scratches with its original flat-foot Omega crown, signed original crystal and "Certified High Pressure Waterproof Seamaster" logo back. Inside we find the beautiful Omega calibre 550 automatic movement which has just been freshly serviced here at Meticulous and is keeping great time. A truly wonderful example of one of the most famous diving/sport/tool watches in horological history.
