This extremely rare cushion shape hermetic (double case) wristwatch by Eberhard & Co, housed in solid 9k rose gold, triple signed and in superb all original condition. The case within a case design was an early attempt at completely dust-proofing a wristwatch by hiding the crown and its corresponding hole within a second outer protective layer. The dust-proof design suited military uses extreamly well and these became known as "desert" watches because of this unique ability in the harshest of climates. The outer, coin edge bezel and crystal screw counter-clockwise off the main case to reveal the second inner hinged case beneath. This case then swings out to allow one access to the crown in order to set and wind the movement. A truly ingenious concept beautifully executed here by the famed Swiss house of Eberhard & Co. Most examples of this timepiece produced both by Eberhard and other high profile companies such as Rolex were round in shape, making this cushion shape example very rare indeed, especially in solid gold.
