Superb Rolex Submariner Oyster Perpetual Chronometer, model number 16800 in excellent all original condition with sapphire crystal, date feature and quick-set caliber 3035 automatically wound movement. This watch features a beautifully patinaed "transitional" dial with light cream luminous color and slightly aged glossy background. The original hands are perfect along with an excellent original bezel with cream color pearl. The 40mm diameter case has been fully refurbished back to near mint condition and the 12 link, full length original bracelet shows very minor stretch for its age. The "R" serial number dates this timepiece to 1988. Our professional watchmaker has just completed a full servicing of this watch to Rolex factory chronometer specifications, it is keeping superb time and with a brand new set of gaskets is testing perfectly waterproof to 10 bars of pressure or 100m depth. Case: Two piece solid stainless steel Rolex Oyster case measuring 40mm diameter at the bezel with original bracelet and patented "triple lock" crown. Excellent condition, fully restored with polished sides, hand brushed lugs and brushed Oyster bracelet. Stamped between the lugs with all the correct serial and model numbers, fully waterproof tested to 100m depth. Bracelet is also correctly stamped 93150 with 593 end links.
Dial: Original factory printed transitional dial with slightly cream luminous and"wavy" patina dial with some slightly matte areas (one of the more collectible variants) in excellent near mint condition. To the naked eye through the crystal it is very difficult to see the wavy background and looks virtually new, but the hidden value in this dial is the patina, caused by a flaw in the dial varnish used by Rolex during this period which makes it a very collectible "mistake", especially because the patina does not distract from the overall look of the watch.
